Job Summary
Director Track & Right of Way oversees the resources and activities of personnel engaged in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of light rail transit Track and Right-of-Way, including budget and supervision of salary/hourly staff, managing vendor contracts and expenditures, and overseeing capital projects and state of good repair (SGR) efforts for DART's Maintenance of Way division. Responsibilities include developing programs, procedures, and standards for the Track and Right-of-Way division; coordinating with engineers and contractors to resolve maintenance problems; reviewing designs and procuring materials; directing maintenance and upgrades; developing work schedules and preventative maintenance plans; interviewing and developing staff; enforcing safety policies; preparing budget estimates and variance explanations; producing activity reports; authorizing requisitions; coordinating with Material Management; responding to emergencies and supporting capital project development; and performing other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field
- Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in maintenance of rail transit or Class I track systems and ROW maintenance/construction
- Five (5) years of experience supervising staff in maintenance activities and technical support programs
- Possess a valid Texas driver’s license to operate DART non-revenue vehicles
- Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen
- Proficiency of PC software applications (Microsoft Office or related)
- Knowledge of budget development/analysis and operational cost factors
- Analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work variable hours including nights and weekends
- Ability to operate mobile/hand-held radio
- Commitment to safety policies
