Job Summary
Director, Tax role leading and shaping Skeena’s tax strategy through construction, pre-production, and operations at Eskay Creek. Responsibilities include tax planning across new projects and acquisitions, structuring agreements with First Nations, managing tax compliance (T2, GST, IFRS tax disclosures), overseeing Canadian federal/provincial taxes, and leading the tax function growth with a focus on efficiency, risk management, and strategic initiatives. The position involves partnering with executives, external advisors, and internal stakeholders to optimize tax positions, respond to audits, and guide long-term tax planning, including life-of-mine considerations and SR&ED claims. The role requires hands-on leadership, strategic thinking, and strong communication to distill complex tax matters for senior leadership, with Vancouver-based hybrid work arrangement and a strong emphasis on mining-related taxation and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
- CPA designation
- Completion of CPA In-Depth Tax Program
- 10+ years of progressive tax experience
- Mining or natural resources sector experience
- Strong knowledge of Canadian and BC corporate income tax, BC minerals tax, and indirect taxes
- Experience in a public company with Canadian mining operations or Big 4 environment preferred
- Strong knowledge of IFRS tax accounting and reporting
- Experience managing tax audits and working with tax authorities
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and tax preparation software
- Ability to operate in a lean, execution-focused environment
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Strong communication skills for senior leadership
- Strategic mindset with business acumen
- High integrity and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Collaborative leadership style to influence cross-functional teams
- CPA designation and related credentials
