Job Summary
Director Tax at Cracker Barrel oversees tax compliance, audits, and planning for federal, state, local and franchise taxes, including preparation of returns, apportionment schedules, M-1 adjustments, and intercompany pricing studies. Leads tax accounting activities such as monthly/quarterly/year-end closing, tax provision, ASC 740 reserves, and related footnotes; manages budgeting and projections for effective tax rate and various business taxes. Oversees the tax audit process, coordinates with auditors, and guides staff through tax planning initiatives, transfer pricing, and regulatory changes. Plays a key role in tax strategy, process improvements, and alignment with senior leadership to mitigate risk and ensure timely regulatory compliance. Requires CPA and extensive tax experience with supervisory leadership, plus strong knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, and industry trends.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting including 15-20 years tax
- Tax accounting experience with 7-10 years supervisory experience
- CPA required
- Substantial knowledge and experience pertaining to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles including financial reporting of the income tax provision, ASC 740, deferred taxes and the related footnotes to the financial statements
- Extensive knowledge and experience pertaining to Federal & State Income tax regulations and in-house return preparation, sales and use tax regulations and operations, business taxation and operations, unclaimed property and personal property tax
- Current knowledge and demonstrated experience in the area of state and local tax planning including legal entity structure, transfer pricing, management fees and intercompany transactions
- Experience identifying emerging and developing tax trends, issues and audit risks
- Thorough knowledge of Tax, AMT, and ACE depreciation methods
- Strong analytical, business acumen and decision-making skills
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills
- Strong computer skills and spreadsheet skills
