Job Summary

Conduct injury prevention assessments and provide onsite emergency care for assigned SCU athletic sanctioned events, including practices, competitions, and travel. Design and implement individualized injury prevention and treatment programs while evaluating injuries and coordinating with medical personnel for comprehensive care. Manage pre-participation exams, maintain electronic health records, and ensure compliance with NCAA and WCC regulations. Advise coaching staff on practice load management using sport science technology and coordinate facility maintenance for the Sports Medicine Clinic. Mentor athletic training students and staff, lead policy development, and attend continuing education to maintain BOC certification.

Required Qualifications

  • BOC certification
  • CPR certification
  • First Aid certification
  • BBP certification
  • Knowledge of FERPA bylaws
  • Knowledge of OSHA bylaws
  • Knowledge of HIPPA bylaws
  • Bachelor's degree in a related health field
  • Ability to provide evidenced-based service
  • Ability to evaluate, recognize, manage, provide treatment, and design rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries and illnesses
  • Ability to assist in policy and procedure development
  • Ability to utilize technology effectively in all aspects of the development and administration of a sports medicine department
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work within an interdisciplinary team to provide holistic patient care
  • 5-7 years of relative experience
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment
  • Must be able to travel to other buildings on the campus
  • Must be able to travel with athletic teams to events outside of the SCU campus
  • Must be able to attend conference and training sessions within Bay Area and/or in- or out-of-state locations
  • Must be able to occasionally travel to outside customers, vendors, suppliers, or institutions
  • Must be able to spend considerable time outdoors attending practices or athletic events
  • Must be able to work in an athletic environment with associated noise and crowds
  • Must be able to perform work within one of the following states: California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and Illinois

Desired Qualifications

  • CSCS certification
  • Advanced degree and certification in a related field
  • Ability to provide mentorship to sports medicine students
  • Ability to serve as a clinical preceptor to assigned students
  • Ability to coordinate annual pre-participation exams for all student-athletes
  • Ability to manage the creation of new student-athlete electronic health record profiles
  • Ability to distribute pre-participation exam paperwork
  • Ability to communicate relevant information from appointments to sports medicine staff members
  • Ability to ensure compliance with NCAA regulations regarding medical clearance requirements
  • Ability to ensure appropriate documentation of all pre-participation exams
  • Ability to coordinate maintenance and upkeep of the Schott Athletic Excellence Center Sports Medicine Clinic and Hydrotherapy room
  • Ability to coordinate staff in-service trainings on equipment maintenance and usage
  • Ability to coordinate staff in-service trainings for hydrotherapy usage and rehabilitation best practices
  • Ability to coordinate implementation, updates, and access to sports medicine technology platforms
  • Ability to coordinate implementation, updates, and access to sport science technology platforms
  • Ability to advise in policy-making and operations decisions for the sports medicine department
  • Ability to participate in the annual review process of current policies and procedures
  • Ability to serve on relative university committees to provide support and direction for SCU students
  • Ability to prepare progress reports
  • Ability to inform supervisor of project status
  • Ability to ensure completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions
  • Ability to prepare and submit reports as requested and required
  • Ability to develop and implement guidelines to support the functions of the unit
  • Ability to attend continuing education symposiums as required to maintain BOC certification
