Job Summary
Director, Silicon Carbide Innovation Alliance (SCIA) leads a university-industry alliance focused on SiC materials, crystal growth, wafer processing, and device-relevant technologies for next-generation power electronics. Responsible for strategic growth, expanding industrial membership, securing government funding, and translating technical capabilities into impactful collaborations. Responsibilities include proposal development for federal agencies (DoD, DOE, NSF), diversified funding management, industry engagement and partnerships, operations and financial management, team leadership, workforce development, and advancing research translation and IP creation. The role sits within Penn State's Materials Research Institute and collaborates with the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and VP for Research, with emphasis on bridging academia, industry, and government to accelerate semiconductor innovation.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in silicon carbide (SiC) materials, crystal growth, wafer processing, or closely related semiconductor technologies
- Proven track record of securing and managing externally funded research/manufacturing programs
- Experience working with or within industry, including collaborative R&D or product development
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with experience managing teams and complex projects
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders across academia, industry, and government
