Job Summary
Provide counsel to business and technology teams on deal structures and complex commercial, technology, and strategic partnership agreements. Act as a trusted strategic advisor to navigate legal and business issues in the payments industry while reviewing commercial enhancements and new initiatives. Liaise with global and regional legal teams to coordinate support across Japan, Korea, and Mongolia, and advise on regulatory consultations and government engagements. Draft, negotiate, and drive to completion agreements that achieve business objectives. Perform work-related travel and report to a senior lawyer in the Visa Asia Pacific Legal team.
Required Qualifications
- 12 to 15 years+ of post-qualification legal experience
- qualified to practice law in Japan or a common law jurisdiction
- Solid corporate/commercial law experience in drafting and negotiating strategic and complex cross-border deals in a top-tier law firm or multinational company
- hands-on experience in advising on legal issues in Japan as well as common law jurisdictions
- Strong academic background with good commercial sense and analytical skills
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and Japanese required
- Ability to work independently and interface with executive level stakeholders with little or no supervision
