Job Summary
Serve as the primary legal advisor to the General Manager, Germany, providing practical, risk-based counsel on commercial operations, market access, competition law, and litigation. Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, rebate agreements, and market access contracts while managing actual and threatened litigation involving the German affiliate. Lead legal support for pricing, reimbursement, tenders, and healthcare contracting initiatives, partnering with Market Access and Government Affairs to assess evolving policies. Advise on German legal requirements impacting commercial operations, including consumer protection, unfair competition, and advertising regulations, and coordinate with external counsel on complex local law matters. Select, instruct, and manage German external counsel, overseeing litigation budgets to ensure efficient delivery of high-quality legal services.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. or equivalent law degree and admission to practice in at least one U.S. state or European jurisdiction
- 10+ years of legal experience, including significant in-house or law firm experience supporting the life sciences industry
- Strong knowledge of German pharmaceutical law, commercial legal issues, competition law, healthcare compliance and promotional regulations
- Experience advising commercial pharmaceutical organizations, including market access, reimbursement or healthcare contracting matters
- Demonstrated ability to advise senior business leaders in a highly regulated environment
- Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to travel approximately 10–20% within Germany and internationally, including periodic travel to the Company's U.S. and European offices
Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting oncology or specialty pharmaceutical products
- In-house legal experience supporting a German pharmaceutical affiliate
- Experience supporting a first commercial launch
- Familiarity with German statutory health insurance (GKV) contracting and reimbursement frameworks
- Experience managing commercial litigation and regulatory investigations
- Fluency in both English and German
