Job Summary
Director of Real-Time Data Services Engineering responsible for designing and executing strategies to harness streaming and event-driven data across the fashion retail value chain. Owns the enterprise real-time data backbone, delivering low-latency, high-availability data services powering personalization, omnichannel operations, and live customer experiences. Partners with merchandising technology, digital product, supply chain engineering, and marketing data teams to ensure timely data delivery. Leads roadmap, governance, and security for streaming data assets; drives observable, reliable data pipelines; collaborates with global teams and offshore partners; builds and mentors a high-performing platform engineering team to enable faster decisioning and in-the-moment actions.
Required Qualifications
- Significant experience in data engineering or platform engineering
- Real-time/streaming data infrastructure expertise
- Hands-on experience with Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming or equivalent
- Operational Data Stores (ODS) and data product serving mechanisms
- Experience with change data capture (CDC) and event-driven microservices
- Pipeline observability, data quality, and SLA enforcement for streaming workloads
- Cloud-native data stacks (Azure, AWS, or GCP) with real-time consumption patterns
- Experience integrating real-time platforms with retail systems (OMS, POS, WMS, CDP, marketing activation)
- Ability to translate streaming capabilities into business outcomes (reduced markdowns, faster replenishment, improved conversion)
- Strong cross-team collaboration across global teams and time zones
- Leadership in building and retaining a high-performing platform engineering team
- Retail/fashion or apparel retail experience preferred
