Job Summary

Director, Project & Portfolio Management leads and continuously improves portfolio governance and monitoring across Sun Life Canada’s initiative portfolio, ensuring investments are governed consistently and decisions are supported with clear, decision-ready insights. Responsibilities include setting Canada-wide portfolio governance standards, leading executive governance forums, directing quarterly portfolio reporting and health monitoring (spend, forecast, benefits confidence, risks, re-approval triggers), translating portfolio information into concise insights for trade-offs, overseeing business casing and investment changes, enabling strategic planning, and strengthening governance controls for compliance and attestations. The role partners with Finance, initiative owners and delivery teams to align expectations, drive value realization from business cases, and improve governance, reporting, and tooling. Requirements focus on 8–12+ years of experience, governance design, financial/cost-benefit proficiency, cross-functional leadership, coaching experience, strong communication, MS Office proficiency, and bilingual capability for Quebec. The position supports a hybrid work model with options to work from office locations in Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Waterloo) and virtually depending on business needs. Preferred professional designations (CPA, CFA) are assets. The base salary range is 110,000 to 180,000 annually, with potential incentive plans.

Required Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of progressive experience in Finance, Strategy, Transformation, and/or Consulting, including experience managing large initiatives
  • Strong governance design and operating discipline across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Strong financial and business case capability including cost/benefit and investment governance expectations across the initiative lifecycle
  • Proven cross-functional leadership and influence; able to align stakeholders with competing priorities
  • People leadership experience including coaching and developing team members
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build credibility with senior leaders
  • Proficient in MS Office (advanced Excel and PowerPoint) and comfort with portfolio data and reporting tooling
  • Bilingualism (French, English) required for Quebec only
