Job Summary
Director of Product Management for Underwriting leads a high-impact product team and owns the strategy, roadmap, and execution for underwriting within an AI-native insurance platform. You will lead a team of product managers, partner with Engineering, Design, Marketing, and Operations, and translate complex regulated-industry challenges into actionable, data-driven solutions that delight customers and carriers. The role emphasizes market research, customer discovery, backlog hygiene, and building compelling roadmaps while influencing senior stakeholders and defining success metrics. A strong background in underwriting products, structured decision workflows, and experience operating in regulated environments is highly valued, with a focus on leveraging AI-native approaches to improve outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of product management experience, with at least 5 years of leading and developing product managers
- Direct experience building underwriting product at a carrier, reinsurer, or insuretech (rules engine, decision workflows, accelerated/automated underwriting, underwriter workbenches)
- Proven track record of owning and scaling a significant functional area or business domain from strategy through execution
- Deep expertise in product discovery, market research, and translating customer insights into winning strategies
- Active use of AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Lovable, Replit, or equivalent) as a daily working accelerant
- Ability to define metrics that matter and use data to drive decisions
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders—from enterprise customers to C-suite executives
- Experience establishing product methodologies, frameworks, and best practices
- Track record of strategic planning balancing ambitious vision with pragmatic execution
- Experience in insurance, financial services, or highly regulated industries is a strong plus
