Job Summary
Director of Transportation responsible for supervising the county school transportation system, providing leadership and direction, organizing and delegating to accomplish goals, communicating effectively with parents and staff, supervising bus operators and maintenance staff, scheduling and supervising bus driver training, screening qualifications, maintaining records and reports, overseeing drug and alcohol testing, and ensuring compliance with safety and transportation regulations. Position requires WV Professional Administrative Certificate, WV driver’s license, and to obtain CDL within 1 year. 261-workday schedule with duties dedicated to administration of school transportation services at the Central Office.
Required Qualifications
- Holds or qualifies for a West Virginia Professional Administrative Certificate
- Holds a valid West Virginia driver’s license
- Holds or willing to obtain CDL within 1 year of being employed as Director of Transportation
- Has a working knowledge of school bus transportation and motor fleet management
- Has a broad knowledge of safety rules and traffic laws, regulations and ordinances governing the use and operation of motor vehicles, specifically school buses
- Has a broad knowledge of the county road system
- Has a broad knowledge and understanding of preventive maintenance routines and operation of mechanical equipment
- Has demonstrated effective supervision
- Has a broad knowledge and understanding of business administration and practices including budgeting, scheduling, inventory control purchasing, bidding and letter writing
- Has demonstrated successful experience in record keeping and inventory control
- Has demonstrated effective communication and computer skills
- Has demonstrated ability to work effectively with others
- Has demonstrated leadership skills
