Job Summary
Lead the district's Comprehensive Special Services department, overseeing ages 3-21 Special Education programs and services in conformance with district, state, and federal objectives and laws. Plan, design, and implement all phases of service provided by the Special Education staff; supervise staff, evaluate performance, and coordinate with principals and administrators. Develop short- and long-range plans for maintaining and improving programs, staff resources, and department budget; ensure compliance with state and federal mandates, district policies, and legal requirements; maintain program staff and student records; provide liaison with parents, students, and the community; supervise, develop, and evaluate the Special Services team, including child study team activities and highly qualified status for certificated staff; interpret and communicate the district’s special education objectives to stakeholders and manage home instruction for homebound/hospitalized pupils.
Required Qualifications
- New Jersey Principal Certification (CE, Provisional or Standard - 0200)
- Administrative experience with extensive knowledge of special education, resources and state of the art practice
- Familiarity with special education law and regulations
- Required criminal history background check
- Proof of citizenship or legal resident alien status
- Ability to plan, design, and implement ages 3-21 Special Education programs and services
- Ability to supervise and evaluate staff and oversee related administrative functions
- Experience developing and managing department budgets
- Knowledge of state and federal mandates governing special education
- Experience maintaining and using district databases, records, inventories, and reports
- Experience coordinating with principals, supervisors, and administrators
