Job Summary
Director of Special Education responsible for overall quality and operations of academic progress for a K-8 therapeutic day school. Oversees Special Education Teachers and indirectly supervises Teacher Assistants; provides professional development for Special Education staff; partners with the Head of School and Director of Clinical Programming to balance academic and therapeutic supports; leads program leadership, curriculum development, and high-performance expectations; ensures compliance with IEPs and records, and fosters a collaborative, mission-driven educational environment with strong staff development and external relationships.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
- License as a Special Educator
- minimum of one year of administrative experience
- License as Administrator of Special Education strongly preferred
- Two or more years as leader preferred
- Experience working with children with behavioral health histories preferred
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations
- Maintain confidentiality
- Experience collaborating with families and diverse communities
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and data collection methods
