Job Summary
Director of Safety is a senior leader responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and continuous improvement of all health and safety programs across the organization, including aggregate operations, asphalt/heavy highway/civil construction, bridge construction, and transportation/logistics. Responsibilities include developing and executing a company-wide safety strategy, promoting a safety-first culture, standardizing safety programs across divisions, partnering with executive leadership to embed safety into daily decisions, ensuring OSHA/MSHA/DOT/FMCSA compliance, monitoring regulatory changes, leading incident reporting and root-cause analysis, driving continuous improvement to reduce incidents and severity, defining and implementing safety programs (JSAs, audits, inspections, behavioral safety), overseeing safety training and leadership development, mentoring safety teams, conducting internal audits and tracking safety metrics, and collaborating with insurance/claims teams to reduce risk.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience
- Experience in construction, aggregates, heavy civil, or transportation environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, and/or related field preferred
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CHST, OSHA 30, or MSHA preferred
- Deep knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to influence across all levels of the organization
