Job Summary

Design and direct a comprehensive religious education program for adults and children in Kindergarten through 8th grade, managing sacraments including First Reconciliation, Communion, and Confirmation. Research and implement child safety best practices, evaluate curricula for effectiveness, and coordinate retreats and community-building activities. Recruit and train volunteers, build theological enrichment events for adults, and maintain compliance with archdiocesan policies. Perform administrative duties such as tracking attendance and managing paperwork for sacraments. Report to the Pastor and plan large events involving coordination with the Archdiocese of Washington. This part-time role offers 20 hours per week with evening and weekend hours, starting at $35,000, for a candidate with a Bachelor's degree in Catholic theology or religious education and practical teaching experience.

Required Qualifications

  • A knowledge and appreciation of diverse aspects of the Catholic Church, its theology, mission, evangelization, history, and spirituality.
  • Leadership ability.
  • Ability to teach children with energy and positivity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong ability to build relationships with a diverse group of parishioners, staff, and with other parishes in the area.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Able to plan large events involving coordination with the Archdiocese of Washington and other parishes in the area.
  • Organizational skills to manage paperwork for children receiving sacraments, tracking attendance, and setting up for events.
  • Bachelor's degree in Catholic theology, religious education, church history or other relevant area (will accept applications from students in their senior year).
  • Practical teaching experience as a catechist, school teacher, or in a similar role.
  • Coursework in catechetics will be considered as experience.
  • Experience with administrative functions (budgeting, scheduling, institutional relationships).
  • Excellent computer proficiency (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, and Gmail).
  • This is a part time 20 hour per week role with evening and weekend hours.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of teaching methods for special needs students is a plus.
