Director of Preconstruction and Estimating

Job Summary

Lead and mentor the Estimating and Preconstruction teams while fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional development. Oversee estimating activities from opportunity evaluation through final proposal submission, developing pursuit strategies for negotiated and competitive projects. Review and approve conceptual budgets, GMPs, ROM estimates, competitive bids, and pricing strategies. Evaluate project risks, logistics, subcontractor coverage, procurement strategies, and scheduling. Lead constructability reviews, value engineering, procurement planning, and risk assessments. Collaborate with Operations to ensure seamless project turnover and serve as a trusted advisor during client presentations. Build lasting relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and trade partners. Improve estimating processes, technology, reporting, and best practices while monitoring key performance indicators including win rate, estimate accuracy, and department capacity. Drive innovation and scalable processes that support long-term growth.

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of progressive commercial construction estimating and preconstruction experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing estimating, preconstruction, or related construction teams
  • Significant experience working for a commercial general contractor or construction manager
  • Demonstrated success leading complex project pursuits from concept through project award
  • Extensive experience with conceptual estimating, negotiated work, GMP development, budgeting, and preconstruction services
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, scheduling, procurement, logistics, subcontractor markets, and project delivery
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered
