Job Summary
Director of Philanthropy (Major Gifts) will manage a portfolio of 100-150 major donors/prospects and conduct over 150 face-to-face donor visits annually to support Year Up United’s mission. The role requires cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding five-to-six figure gifts, developing and executing multi-year major gifts plans, using moves management and fundraising metrics, and maintaining donor confidentiality. Responsibilities include collaborating with the Development team, coordinating prospect research and event logistics, and leveraging Salesforce/donor databases. The position also involves coaching and mentoring a small number of current students, facilitating weekly group sessions with students, and participating in staff meetings and trainings. Qualifications include 5-7 years of fundraising success in major gifts, strong writing/presentation skills, and the ability to engage long-term partnerships. The role is exempt, on-site at least two days per week in NY, with a commitment to Year Up United’s diversity and mission.
Required Qualifications
- At least 5-7 years of fundraising success with an emphasis on major gifts
- Demonstrated comfort and experience with identifying, cultivating, stewarding, and closing significant gifts
- Capacity for strategic leadership and vision to work with senior leadership on fundraising priorities
- Moves management and metrics to ensure accountability
- Strong writing and presentation skills
- Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint; experience with Salesforce or donor databases
- Ability to engage, cultivate, and steward long-term partnerships with high net worth individuals
- Ability to work independently and in teams; exceptional communication with diverse audiences
