Director of Outfit Trades

Job Summary
Oversee all outfit trade operations including Electric, Machine, Tin, Carpenter, Pipe, Insulating, and Paint shops, ensuring safety, quality, schedule adherence, and cost performance. Direct trade superintendents and manage workforce planning while coordinating work sequencing between trades and production areas to meet construction milestones. Enforce safety standards, lead process improvement initiatives under the BIW Business Operating System, and drive first-time quality efforts across all shops. Manage trade resources, monitor productivity metrics, and collaborate with planning, engineering, and facilities teams. Lead large teams with a focus on lean manufacturing implementation and operational performance improvement within shipbuilding programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, marine engineering or related technical field
- Minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible production/trade management experience
- Proven track record in production leadership
- Strong understanding of trade processes and methods
- Experience with lean manufacturing implementation
- Proficiency with production management systems
- Strong track record of operational performance improvement
- Experience with Navy programs and requirements
- Demonstrated success in safety leadership
- Strong labor relations experience
- Proven ability to lead large teams
- Experience with Lean manufacturing principles
