Job Summary
Director of Operations/Security responsible for overseeing daily operations, security functions, and facilities management of a DHS long-term shelter site in Queens, NY. Manages operations and security teams, vendors, and compliance with DHS/FDNY/DOHMH/OSHA regulations; develops emergency protocols, conducts facility inspections, oversees licenses and permits, and coordinates with city agencies. Requires 35-hour workweek with 24/7 on-call availability, 24/7 coverage planning, and strong leadership to maintain a safe, compliant shelter environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in facilities management, public administration, business, or related field
- Minimum 5–7 years of facilities or operations management experience, preferably in a residential, shelter, or social services setting
- Valid New York State Security Guard License
- FDNY F-80 Certificate of Fitness (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
- OSHA Certification preferred
- Valid NYS Driver’s License, if authorized to operate an agency vehicle
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and facility management systems
- Knowledge of NYC shelter systems, DHS requirements, and building operations
- Experience supervising diverse teams and managing in unionized environments
