Director of Nursing RN

Director of Nursing (DON) manages the facility nursing program to achieve and maintain the highest quality of care. Responsibilities include directing and motivating nursing staff, planning and guiding professional development, daily unit rounds to ensure adherence to clinical protocols and nursing policies, developing and managing systems for clinical competencies and training needs, handling general management tasks (hiring, disciplining, evaluating), leading meetings and committees on resident care issues, reviewing time sheets for payroll, supporting recruitment and retention programs, initiating studies to evaluate effectiveness and costs of nursing services, coordinating staffing schedulers and nurse-on-call systems, developing department budgets and monitoring expenses, addressing resident/family/employee concerns, ensuring timely follow-through of pharmacy, dietary, and physician consultations, and assuming responsibility for the center in the absence of the Administrator. Skills include directing and motivating staff, effective communication with residents and families, emergency responsiveness, organization and prioritization, and knowledge of clinical staff training techniques.
