Director of Nursing (DON) - Full-Time Exempt

Job Summary

Provide overall leadership and oversight of the nursing department to ensure high-quality resident care and clinical outcomes, including managing falls, pressure injuries, and hospital readmissions. Conduct regular rounds to monitor resident care, staff performance, and the environment of care while ensuring accurate documentation and regulatory compliance. Lead quality improvement initiatives, infection control programs, and survey readiness, overseeing incident reporting and corrective action plans. Develop and retain a high-performing nursing team through hiring, coaching, and performance management, while managing staffing, scheduling, and budget development. Partner with the executive director and interdisciplinary team to drive clinical, operational, and financial performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with active, unrestricted license in the state
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and clinical practices
  • Current CPR certification
  • Knows Resident Rights
  • Follows and adheres to North Shore Health's policies and procedures implementing HIPAA requirements for the privacy and security of protected health information
  • Knows and follows North Shore Health rules
  • Follows North Shore Health dress and hygiene policies
  • Demonstrates proper use of equipment
  • Reports equipment needs or repairs
  • Follows North Shore Health smoking policies
  • Reports and documents any incidents or accidents of residents, staff or visitors to the appropriate North Shore Health Support Center personnel
  • Reports all hazardous conditions/equipment to Executive Director
  • Uses required protective equipment
  • Follows infection control standards, policies and procedures
  • Helps the residents/patients exercise and/or protect their rights
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident/patient and employee information
  • Follows and adheres to North Shore Health's policies and procedures implementing HIPAA requirements for the privacy and security of protected health information
  • Uses and/or discloses only minimum amount of Protected Health Information necessary to complete assigned tasks
  • Reports all suspected violations of the company's HIPAA policies or procedures to North Shore Health's Chief Compliance Officer
  • Attends and participates in required meetings, committees, training, and organizational initiatives
  • May provide direct nursing care as needed
  • Acts in an administrative capacity in the absence of the Executive Director
  • Knows Resident Rights
  • Helps the residents/patients exercise and/or protect their rights
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident/patient and employee information
  • Follows infection control standards, policies and procedures
  • Follows North Shore Health dress and hygiene policies

  • Must be available for evenings, weekends, and emergencies
  • On-call responsibility

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing
  • Demonstrated experience with survey readiness and regulatory compliance
  • Experience managing staffing, budgets, and operational performance
  • Strategic thinking and decision-making
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead through change and manage competing priorities
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism
  • Ability to analyze data and drive performance improvement
