Job Summary

Plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate the nursing service department in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Develop and update written policies and procedures, coordinate nursing services with other resident services, and maintain an ongoing quality assurance program. Make written and oral reports to the Administrator and participate in facility surveys. Assign sufficient licensed practical and registered nurses to each shift, develop work assignments, and conduct daily rounds to ensure quality care. Monitor medication passes, review nurses' notes, and assist with discharge planning and MDS/Care Plan coordination. Assist the HR Director with annual performance evaluations and ensure fair disciplinary action. Report occupational exposures, establish TB management programs, and coordinate continuing education for the nursing department.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility
  • Registered Nurse with current unencumbered state license
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English language
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures that are necessary for providing quality care
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday
  • Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
  • Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 lbs. to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public
  • Ability to relate information concerning a resident's condition
