Job Summary
Director of Mechanical Engineering, Structures leads the design, analysis, and architecture of flight-ready structures for launch vehicles and spacecraft. Provides leadership and technical authority for structural design across the full hardware lifecycle—from concept and design through manufacturing, integration, test, and flight. Builds and mentors a multi-discipline structures team, ensuring solutions are sound, manufacturable, and delivered on schedule. Collaborates with Propulsion, Avionics/Software, Manufacturing/Test, Quality/Reliability, Supply Chain, and Programs to align milestones with program priorities and company objectives. Requires 10+ years in aerospace structures and 5+ years of leading teams delivering flight hardware; hands-on design/analysis/test involvement; proficiency in FEM and materials/allowables; familiarity with AS9100, NASA/DoD standards, and cryogenic environments. Relocation assistance provided; U.S. citizenship or eligible to obtain ITAR authorizations may be required.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years in aerospace structures with 5+ years leading teams that delivered flight hardware
- B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related field
- Proficiency in FEM and hand analysis; materials/allowables; fracture/mechanisms fundamentals; test planning and data reduction
- Track record as a player-coach: hands-on design/analysis/test involvement while leading teams to delivery
- Experience running change control, nonconformance, and configuration management at speed
