Job Summary
Director of Leadership Philanthropy leads the Academy’s individual giving strategy, personally stewarding a portfolio of 75-100 high-capacity donors, while managing a team of four to achieve $10M-$12M in annual fundraising. The role designs and executes short- and long-term strategic plans for leadership philanthropy, oversees donor engagement and moves management, integrates planned and legacy giving, collaborates with Trustees and volunteers for high-level solicitations, and partners across functions to build a robust donor pipeline. The position reports to the Chief Advancement Officer, is based in San Francisco with a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite), and requires a Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years in nonprofit development, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to travel within the Bay Area. The role emphasizes translating complex scientific and educational impact into compelling philanthropic opportunities and leading a high-performing team toward ambitious fundraising goals.
