Job Summary
Director of HR to lead the Garden’s people strategy, culture, and HR operations; serve as strategic advisor and hands-on leader across recruitment, onboarding, compensation, performance management, compliance, organizational development, training, and HR systems; responsible for shaping an equitable, inclusive workplace and partnering with leadership to sustain growth. Responsibilities include coaching managers through employee relations conversations, collaborating on compensation planning, leading recruitment for horticulture, conservation, operations and administrative roles, ensuring California employment law compliance, facilitating leadership development and training, strengthening engagement and internal communications, improving HR systems and reporting, and navigating organizational change. Requires strategic and hands-on leadership, emotional intelligence, clear communication, and ability to manage complex priorities in a mission-driven environment.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of California employment law and HR best practices
- Experience managing employee relations, performance management, and compliance matters
- Demonstrated success partnering with organizational leaders and managers
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
- Experience overseeing HR systems, policies, and operational processes
