Job Summary

Direct and supervise Human Resources staff while preparing and maintaining the department budget. Maintain thorough knowledge of employment regulations and laws to ensure full compliance, including participating in EEO, wage & hour, and worker's compensation hearings. Coordinate recruitment, screening, and reference checking for non-exempt personnel, while recruiting and recommending exempt staff. Manage all personnel and resume files, oversee employee benefits programs, and set up wage and salary systems including performance evaluations. Conduct training classes, monitor orientation programs, and develop managers for future advancement. Practice positive employee relations through coaching, counseling, and discipline, while maintaining an open door policy and monitoring turnover statistics. Ensure compliance with all HR-related Loss Prevention SOPs and safety committee requirements. Update required reports, develop internal communications, and plan the employee newsletter. Maintain regular attendance in compliance with scheduling needs, which may vary according to hotel requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience in a hotel or a related industry; or a 4-year college degree and at least 2 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and 3 or more years of related experience
  • Previous supervisory responsibility
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of employment laws
  • Long hours
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings
  • Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel
