Job Summary
Director of Food Safety to lead the Food Safety and Compliance team for fresh cut processing facilities in the Salinas Valley area, overseeing HACCP, GAP, GMP programs, and regulatory compliance. Responsible for the maintenance and coordination of all food safety programs, serving as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities and third-party audits. Manages external audits, recall coordination and mock recalls, organic certification reviews, and vertical compliance from field to processing. Requires travel to co-packer locations and customer sites, participates in facility upgrades and customer plant tours, supports continuous improvement, and is on call 365/24/7. Salary range forecasted at $150,000 - $180,000, with base pay subject to experience; strong health care package offered.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Food Safety, Food Science, Microbiology, or related field
- At least 5 years relevant experience in produce safety, with at least 2 years in a supervisory position
- Successful completion of FSPCA PCOI training
- HACCP, PSA grower training, and FSVP training preferred
- Knowledge of state/federal food safety guidelines, FSMA, LGMA, GAPs, GMPs, HACCP, and USDA/FDA guidelines as they relate to the fresh produce industry
- Excellent written and verbal communications
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office 365, Famous ERP, and Heavy Connect
- Bilingual Spanish fluency preferred
