Job Summary
Director of Firmware Engineering for Verkada cameras leads the embedded software organization behind the flagship camera line. Oversees multiple firmware groups, partners with Hardware, Cloud, Product, and QA to define roadmaps and deliver edge-computing and imaging capabilities. Manages and mentors engineering managers and senior ICs, drives NPI with hardware teams from concept to mass production, oversees core camera firmware (drivers, OTA updates, hardware bring-up), leads camera imaging systems (ISP tuning, sensor integration, imaging pipeline), and drives firmware delivery and quality (release tooling, CI/CD, fleet health). Requires 8+ years in embedded/firmware, 4+ years in management, and a BS/MS in a relevant field; visa sponsorship is provided. Special emphasis on cross-functional collaboration, scalability, and technical excellence, with experience in camera architectures and SoCs (e.g., Ambarella, Qualcomm) preferred.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of hands-on embedded software or firmware engineering experience
- 4+ years of engineering management experience (leading organizations of 15+ engineers)
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Technical proficiency with Linux and C for embedded systems
- Experience with image processing pipelines or ISP tuning preferred
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, and fleet-wide release management
- Excellent communication skills with ability to translate technical decisions to business impact
