Job Summary
Lead the organization's financial management, reporting, and administration while collaborating with the Executive Director to identify business risks, manage treasury, and guide strategic planning. Direct accounting, payroll, and finance functions by establishing operational policies, internal controls, and annual budgets, then oversee the annual auditing process and variance reporting to the Executive Council, Chiefs in Assembly, and the Royal Bank of Canada. Manage vendor contracts, funding agreements, and program expenditures while ensuring financial reporting consistency across all entities. Recruit, train, and retain finance staff, and respond to manager inquiries regarding cash flow and specific program reports. Requires a CPA designation, 8+ years of senior leadership experience, and familiarity with First Nations culture; includes flexible hours, a Class 5F driver's license, and a valid criminal record check.
Required Qualifications
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related discipline
- 8 years of senior leadership experience in accounting or finance
- 5+ years in a financial leadership role
- Experience working with First Nations, including working with First Nations Chiefs
- Excellent project management and change management skills, with the ability to transition to new processes and foster a knowledge-sharing collaborative environment between multiple programs
- Ability to balance and prioritize several priorities while maintaining a keen sense of accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with various internal and external stakeholders
- Strategic, growth minded, and innovative long-term thinker with the ability to anticipate the needs and negotiate solutions
- Demonstrated ability to prepare financial reports, financial analysis and lead the audit process
- Must be proficient in computer software with sound knowledge of SAGE 300 and Microsoft Office
- Must be able to work flexible hours
- Must possess a valid Class 5F Driver's License and a reliable vehicle
- Must have a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Clear Child Abuse Checks
Desired Qualifications
- MBA or major in Accounting/Finance
- Knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and fluent in a First Nations language
