Job Summary
Director of Facilities Engineering responsible for leadership across campus facilities, supervising two managers and indirect oversight of technicians; directs maintenance, safety, energy management, and strategic facility plans. Oversees budget development for maintenance operations and vendor services; coordinates with contractors for major renovations, ensures regulatory compliance (NFPA, OSHA, CMS, ADA, CARF), and drives capital projects, building systems optimization (MEP, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BMS), and safety programs. Leads reporting to senior leadership, supports resident services and campus activities, and emphasizes continuous improvement, energy efficiency, and adherence to corporate core values.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field preferred or substantial experience may offset this requirement.
- 10 years of facilities engineering experience, preferably within a large, multi-building campus or healthcare environment and with managing complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
- 5+ years of leadership experience: Proven experience leading teams of facilities staff, including managers, maintenance technicians, and contractors.
- Experience with Aging and Modern Infrastructure and building systems.
- Regulatory and compliance knowledge including building codes, healthcare and life safety regulations, and environmental compliance (e.g., NFPA, OSHA, CMS guidelines, ADA, CARF and local codes).
- Capital project management including budgeting, planning, contractor oversight, and minimizing disruption to resident services.
- Proficiency with CMMS software and related project planning/tools.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
