Job Summary
Director of Estimating responsible for leading and actively participating in all estimating efforts for mid- to high-rise residential and commercial developments in Stamford, CT. Role includes preparing and reviewing conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, GMPs, and bid proposals; developing accurate estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracts; leading the estimating department and mentoring staff; performing quantity takeoffs and value engineering; collaborating with development, construction, architecture, engineering, and project management teams; managing subcontractor solicitation, bid evaluation, and pricing; presenting cost estimates and budget analyses to senior leadership; maintaining cost databases and forecasting tools; monitoring market conditions and industry trends to inform cost management and risk mitigation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
- Minimum of 10–15 years of progressive estimating experience, preferably in large-scale residential, mixed-use, or commercial high-rise construction
- Prior experience leading estimating teams strongly preferred
- Proven ability to both lead estimating operations and independently produce detailed estimates for complex construction projects
- Extensive experience preparing conceptual estimates, hard bids, GMPs, and value engineering analyses for ground-up developments
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods, building systems, scheduling, and project sequencing
- Advanced knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and contract documents
- Strong analytical, organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities with the ability to collaborate across departments and leadership levels
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously while meeting aggressive deadlines
- Advanced proficiency in estimating software, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and database systems
- Experience working collaboratively with ownership, developers, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and operations teams
