Job Summary
Director of Engineering to lead Pantheon’s Hosting Platform, owning the technical roadmap for edge delivery, caching, databases, and multi-tenant infrastructure at scale; mentoring engineering managers and senior engineers; driving large-scale distributed architecture decisions; defining SLOs, observability, and incident response; managing critical customer escalations; balancing technical debt with platform stability; collaborating with partners and vendors; and championing AI-native engineering practices across the team.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of engineering experience with 3+ years managing other managers
- Background at a company that sells a cloud service
- Proven track record leading high-performing engineering teams
- Executive-level communication skills
- Deep experience with on-call operations and customer escalation management at scale
- Advanced knowledge of GCP, AWS, or Azure and container orchestration systems (Kubernetes)
- Hands-on experience with Nginx, MySQL, Redis, Memcached, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch
- Familiarity with PHP, Node.js, and related application server technologies
- Experience with CDN and edge delivery architecture
- Proficiency in Go, Python, or equivalent
- Supporting AI-native development workflows, including LLM integration
- Staff-level architectural knowledge
- On-call and incident management experience
