Director of Engineering, Battery Pack Systems

Job Summary
Set and drive engineering strategy for battery pack programs while aligning technical execution with business objectives. Build, mentor, and lead cross-disciplinary engineering teams including mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers. Oversee the design, development, and validation of lithium-ion battery packs and modules across multiple industries and applications. Collaborate with program management, procurement, manufacturing, thermal and mechanical engineering, electrical and BMS teams, and software engineering to deliver integrated battery solutions. Represent engineering in technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and executive leadership, including design reviews and technical presentations. Guide technology roadmaps by evaluating emerging battery technologies, materials, manufacturing methods, and regulatory requirements. Ensure battery designs comply with applicable industry standards and safety requirements, including UL, ISO, SAE, and IEC. Identify technical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and lead engineering through evolving program requirements and organizational change. Oversee engineering documentation, including BOMs, assembly procedures, installation guides, and design documentation. This role is based 100% onsite in New Kensington, PA.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- 10+ years of engineering experience with a strong focus on lithium-ion battery pack systems or closely related technologies
- 5+ years of engineering leadership or management experience, including building and developing technical teams
- Demonstrated experience leading the design, development, testing, and launch of battery systems for electrified propulsion or stationary energy storage applications
- Deep understanding of battery pack architecture, system integration, mechanical design, electrical systems, thermal management, and Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- Experience with engineering tools such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or comparable CAD platforms, along with electrical design and analysis tools
- Working knowledge of battery certification requirements and regulatory standards, including UL, IEC, ISO, and SAE
- Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills with experience engaging executives, customers, and cross-functional engineering teams
- Proven ability to manage technical risk, competing priorities, and multiple development programs
- Location: This position is based 100% onsite in New Kensington, PA
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD
- Experience with BMS software and control algorithms
- Advanced thermal or mechanical battery pack design experience
- Background in battery modeling, simulation, or advanced battery testing
- Project or program management certification or equivalent experience
