Job Summary
Director of Engineering, Applied AI leads the design, development, and delivery of AI-driven capabilities across enterprise platforms. The role focuses on scaling Applied AI and generative AI initiatives, coordinating with Data Engineering, Application Development & Integrations, and business teams, and building a team of AI Engineers. Responsibilities include driving the technical roadmap for Applied AI, implementing cutting-edge AI techniques (including LLMs and Retrieval-Augmented Generation), designing systems to extract value from large structured and unstructured data (e.g., PDFs in S3, SharePoint, emails) using LLMs, RAG, and RLHF, building Agentic AI systems to automate workflows, and ensuring production-ready, scalable AI solutions with a focus on privacy, IP, and ethical standards. The role emphasizes cross-functional delivery, measurable performance, and long-term maintainability, with a strong emphasis on engineering excellence and collaborative leadership.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years technology engineering experience
- 2+ years in Applied AI software integration
- 3+ years team leadership experience
- Experience with Python and/or Typescript/Javascript
- Well-versed in SQL
- Experience with LLM provider APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini) and frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, AutoGen, AI SDK)
- Experience building AI-powered applications at scale with LLMs
- Experience with Agentic AI, Embeddings, RAG, RLHF and other AI techniques at enterprise scale
- Experience designing/evaluating systems built on LLMs (prompt testing, grounding, hallucination detection, performance benchmarking)
- Excellent communication skills and cross-functional collaboration
