Job Summary
Director of Engineering and Chief Engineer for the Research and Advanced Design (R&AD) Division in El Segundo, CA. Lead the Engineering functional organization, manage Chief Engineers and System Architects across multiple directorates, partner with the Center of Technical Excellence to enable rapid execution and prototype development, drive MBSE and system engineering practices, recruit and develop engineering talent, and collaborate with US government customers. Requires Top Secret clearance (in scope or continuous evaluation) and the ability to attain Special Program Access (PAR); travel up to 25%. Focus areas include autonomy, battlefield management, advanced air vehicles, weapons, survivability, and integrated mission systems; responsibilities include defining, developing, verifying products, leading technical reviews, and ensuring engineering processes meet objectives. Also emphasizes leadership, ethics, diversity, and an accountable, high-performing engineering culture.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s of Science in a STEM discipline with 9+ years of related experience OR Master’s in STEM with 7+ years of related experience
- Leadership positions in aerospace/defense or equivalent
- Familiarity with autonomy, battlefield management, advanced air vehicles and weapons, survivability
- Experience in at least three of: software development, avionics integration, mission systems and communications integration, MBSE (requirements analysis, modeling and simulation, verification), air vehicle design, risk management, cybersecurity, low observables, product support
- Technical leadership/management experience including technical baseline management and leading major technical reviews (SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FRR)
- Experience with proposal development: estimating, price-to-win, design-to-cost, execution risk
- Ability to work with government customers and obtain/maintain security clearances (Top Secret; PAR)
