Job Summary
Director of Development to design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, focusing on major and transformational gifts to advance MUSC Foundation’s priorities. Responsibilities include cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major-gift prospects; developing donor engagement strategies; coordinating with faculty, leadership, and internal/external stakeholders; overseeing fundraising programs such as capital projects, endowed chairs, student scholarships, and program endowments; guiding proposal development, donor reporting, and stewardship activities; and leading or coordinating development staff as needed. Requires collaboration across Advancement teams, strong relationship-building with high-level donors and institutional leaders, and the ability to travel and work non-standard hours. Proficiency with fundraising databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred) and outstanding written/verbal communication are essential. Performance is evaluated based on fundraising results and impact.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
- 5-7 years of related professional experience
- Proven success in securing major gifts ($25,000+)
- Strong fundraising strategy, donor cultivation, and solicitation skills
- Ability to engage with high-level donors and institutional leadership
- Experience recruiting and managing volunteer boards or advisory committees
- Excellent written and verbal communication; strong organizational and project management skills
- Proficiency with fundraising databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred)
- Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends as needed
