Director of Construction

Job Summary

Oversee all phases of construction projects from pre-construction through completion while managing multiple active job sites and ensuring alignment with project schedules. Direct Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to resolve on-site issues and remove barriers to execution. Develop execution plans, coordinate sequencing, and monitor critical path activities to mitigate delays. Manage project budgets, track expenditures, approve change orders, and collaborate with finance teams on reporting. Enforce strict safety standards, conduct site inspections, and ensure compliance with building codes and regulations. Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing regular updates and coordinating with architects, engineers, and consultants. Lead and mentor construction staff, conduct performance evaluations, and support recruitment and onboarding. Ensure all work meets quality specifications, manage punch lists, and drive continuous improvement in construction practices. Manage relationships with subcontractors, oversee contract execution, and evaluate vendor performance. This full-time, on-site role requires frequent travel between sites and availability for urgent escalations. Candidates must currently reside in Dallas, Houston, Austin, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Miami, Nashville, Charlotte, or Phoenix.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 8+ years of progressive construction experience
  • 3+ years in senior leadership roles (Director-level, Senior Project Manager, or equivalent)
  • Proven experience managing multi-site or large-scale construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, codes, and safety regulations
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong budgeting and cost control experience
  • Must currently reside in one of the approved locations listed above

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial, industrial, healthcare, or infrastructure construction
  • Familiarity with construction management software (Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.)
  • PMP, CCM, or similar certification
  • Experience with design-build or EPC project delivery models
  • LEED or sustainability-focused construction experience
  • Strong background in contract negotiation and vendor management
  • Experience working with large general contractors or developer organizations
  • Exposure to portfolio-level construction oversight
