Job Summary
Director of Communications leads a multi-channel communications strategy to grow fundraising revenue and donor engagement for The Children’s Inn at NIH, reporting to the Chief Philanthropy and Communications Officer. Oversees a two-person team, partners with senior leadership and external vendors, advises the CEO on messaging, and drives campaigns across digital, direct mail, and events to elevate family impact and NIH-related medical advancement stories while maintaining a cohesive editorial voice and brand. The role requires strategic leadership, stakeholder collaboration, content production oversight, media relations, and internal communications, with a hybrid schedule involving three days per week on-site in Bethesda, MD.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or related discipline
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive communications and marketing experience
- Experience working with fundraising teams and leading integrated campaigns
- Experience using data to improve fundraising campaign performance across digital, direct mail, and content channels
- Excellent professional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
- Experience managing teams, projects, cross-functional work, and external vendors
- Ability to advise senior leaders on messaging, media opportunities, and communications priorities
