Director of Communications & Public Affairs

Director of Communications & Public Affairs leads Aviva’s communications and public affairs function, developing a comprehensive multi-year strategy, supervising internal and external communications, media relations, public affairs, and brand storytelling. Responsibilities include establishing messaging frameworks for funders, policymakers, partners, and staff; overseeing external thought leadership pieces; managing digital channels and website strategy; coordinating internal communications for a dispersed, field-based workforce; and advising the CEO and executive team on positioning and crisis communications. Requires senior leadership capability, strong writing and storytelling skills, strategic planning, stakeholder relationship management with journalists and government officials, project management, and proficiency with tools like WordPress, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and email/content management platforms. Education preference is a Bachelor's with at least 8 years in communications/public affairs, including at least 3 in a leadership role; Master’s preferred. Certifications/licenses include a valid CA driver’s license and mandatory health/safety clearances. The role involves occasional evenings or weekends, a non-exempt/over-time plan not applicable, and is based in Los Angeles with on-site work expectations depending on events and meetings.
