Job Summary

Develop and implement safety policies for students, staff, and property; supervise Campus Safety personnel, including hiring, training, and evaluation under New York state regulations. Serve as the primary liaison to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and code enforcement while collaborating with the President on Emergency Management oversight. Coordinate campus safety education programs, manage motor vehicle and parking policies, and oversee investigations of accidents or handbook violations. Maintain records, schedule duty rosters, and prepare payroll information for the Dean of Student Life. Work regular business hours with flexibility for evenings, nights, and weekends to cover special events and maintain staffing levels.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in college safety, security or law enforcement
  • Must be certified, or able to obtain certifications upon employment for Basic First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Emergency Oxygen Administration, Naloxone (Narcan) Administration, Blood Borne Pathogens, Mental Health First Aid
  • Maintain certification throughout employment
  • Possesses appropriate certifications and licensing (or is immediately certifiable/licensable), including a valid New York State driver's license
  • Licensure required by the Security Guard Act of 1992
  • Interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Ability to walk or move quickly for extended distances
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to sit at a workstation
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work regular business hours (M-F, 8-5), and some flexible hours including evenings, nights, and weekends

Desired Qualifications

  • Associates degree or higher preferred but not required
  • Experience in a higher educational residential community is highly preferred
  • Ability to provide (i.e. possess Trainer certifications) and oversee staff training is highly preferred
  • Previous experience or background in emergency management/planning
  • Interest in the quality of life of our campus population
  • Commitment to the goals of the College
  • Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community
