Job Summary
Director of Aquatic Operations leads multi-site YMCA aquatic facilities, overseeing pools, lifeguards, swim programs, risk management, staffing, and budgets. The role focuses on strategic leadership, program development (group and private swim lessons, water fitness, rentals, and community partnerships), safety compliance with health department regulations, OSHA, and YMCA standards, and delivering high-quality member experiences across multiple pool facilities in Montclair, NJ.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Education, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5–7 years of progressive aquatic leadership experience, including managing multiple pools and diverse aquatic programs (swim lessons, water fitness, lifeguard training, rentals)
- Staff supervision, scheduling, and performance management experience
- Operational leadership and problem-solving in aquatic settings
- Aquatic risk management knowledge and pool operations
- Budgeting and financial management for aquatic programs
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Must obtain and maintain CPO, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, Lifeguard certifications (YMCA or ARC preferred)
