Job Summary
Provide direct and personalized academic advising, coaching, and mentoring to a student cohort while training, leading, and managing the work of professional academic advisors. Develop strong relationships with deans, department chairs, and faculty to ensure advisors remain current on curricular requirements and guide students in degree and certificate program choices. Participate in campus-wide student engagement activities, committees, and task forces. Collaborate with the University Director of Advising and other college directors on student success research analysis, software utilization, team training, and standardized advising strategies. Pursue a program of personal and professional development including active participation in professional associations. This role supports the Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science departments at Purdue University Fort Wayne.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree
- At least two years of direct experience in academic advising in a university
- Superior listening skills
- interpersonal relationships skills
- basic counseling skills
- knowledge and skill in group dynamics
- cross-cultural understanding skills
- strong abilities to empathize with people from freshmen to deans and executive administrators
- Skill or aptitude in using sophisticated academic software like Banner, myBlueprint, Navigate360, Smart Plan, etc.
