Job Summary
Director of Accounting for a mission-driven non-profit in Rochester, NY, leading accounting operations, financial reporting, annual budgets, and audits while ensuring GAAP compliance and strong internal controls. Reports to leadership, mentors the Accounting Manager, Contract/Voucher Manager, and Client Financial Analyst, and collaborates with external regulators and funders. Requires extensive non-profit finance experience (10+ years) with leadership (5+ years), Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred), and ideally CPA. Responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day accounting, timely financial reporting, external audits, policy development, budgeting, voucher administration, and stakeholder liaison.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field (required)
- Master's degree (preferred)
- CPA (preferred)
- 10+ years of progressive non-profit finance and accounting experience (required)
- 5+ years of management/director-level finance leadership experience (required)
- Experience with federal and New York State non-profit human service funding models and requirements (essential)
- Deep understanding of non-profit finance (accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, operations, reporting, and revenue cycle) (essential)
- Knowledge of GAAP (essential)
- Proven ability to lead and manage teams, projects, and multiple priorities
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization
