Job Summary
Review balance sheet reconciliations and monthly close checklists across all business units to ensure reported financials are accurate. Provide direct oversight of the accounting team, including regular 1:1 coaching, technical redirection, and performance management. Own fixed asset, capital expenditure, and lease accounting, while maintaining visibility into accounts receivable and payable aging through weekly reviews. Lead the department's role in the annual financial audit and serve as the liaison for the Ashford Inc. monthly close process. Establish and enforce accounting policies with strict adherence to GAAP, while proactively identifying manual processes for redesign or automation using AI tools. Communicate directly with the CFO on department health, risks, and personnel issues without escalation. This role is based in Miami, Florida, and includes a 10% target annual bonus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Active CPA license
- Minimum of seven to nine years of progressive accounting experience
- Direct supervisory experience
- Prior experience managing or reviewing month-end close across multiple entities or business units
- Prior direct people-management experience
- Demonstrated experience having difficult performance and technical-correction conversations
- Demonstrated track record of leading process improvement initiatives
- Demonstrated track record of implementing accounting automation or AI tools
- Superior technical accounting judgment
- Ability to independently identify and resolve reconciliation and close errors without escalation
- Demonstrated ability to have direct, candid conversations with staff about performance and technical gaps
- Ability to redirect work before it compounds
- Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment on accounting and reconciliation matters
- Considerable knowledge of GAAP
- Knowledge of applicable territorial/state code requirements
- Knowledge of internal financial policies and procedures
- Proficiency with modern accounting software
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently, both orally and in writing, across all levels of the organization
- Ability to handle sensitive matters on a confidential basis
- Ability to work under pressure of deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Positive, solutions-oriented attitude
Desired Qualifications
- Multi-jurisdiction accounting experience (multi-state or multi-territory)
- Hospitality, tourism, or multi-location service industry experience
- Experience working with or reporting into a parent/public company accounting close process
