Job Summary
Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and timely financial reporting for the Finance department. Lead hiring, training, and performance management for direct reports while collaborating with senior leadership to prepare annual budgets and forecasts. Prepare financial statements, perform variance analyses, and support month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accurate regulatory compliance and internal controls. Partner with the Development team to report gifts accurately and tell the story of the mission through financial data. Manage vendor records, process payments, and coordinate with external auditors for year-end procedures. This role drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency across financial operations at the Humane Society of Greater Rochester.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 5+ years of experience in accounting
- 4+ years of leadership experience
- Demonstrated initiative to lead at a higher level
- Prioritizing growth opportunities and experiences
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment with a professional demeanor, self-reliance, and resourcefulness

Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field strongly preferred
- 5+ years of experience in accounting is strongly preferred
- 4+ years of leadership experience experience preferred
- A combination of education and experience will be considered if aligned with the position
- Most recent versions of computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, database management (Financial Edge preferred)
