Job Summary
Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting leads technical accounting research, external financial reporting, and compliance under US GAAP and SEC rules. Responsibilities include coordinating accounting policy, preparing journal entries, overseeing external filings (10-K/10-Q/8-K), guiding complex transactions (mergers & acquisitions, carve-outs, divestitures), and leading the Employee Benefit Plan team (401(k) and defined benefit plans). Manages stock compensation accounting, liaises with auditors and Investor Relations, drives process improvements and AI-enabled solutions, and oversees finance transformation initiatives. Requires CPA, 12+ years’ experience, strong analytical and communication skills, and ability to lead and influence across finance and legal functions. Hybrid role based in North Bethesda, MD.
Required Qualifications
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
- 12+ years of extensive experience
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS where applicable
- Experience with external financial reporting and SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K)
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reporting rules and regulations
- Experience leading technical accounting research and complex transactions (mergers & acquisitions, carve-outs, divestitures)
- Experience with stock-based compensation accounting
- Leadership of Employee Benefit Plans (401(k) and defined benefit plans)
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems and tools (SAP BPC, Fidelity PSW, Workiva)
- Strong communication skills across levels (Board to staff)
- Ability to leverage AI/automation to optimize accounting processes
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting; Masters in Accounting a plus
- Willingness to travel <10%
