Job Summary

Own the mechanical design and architecture of products, leading CAD work, design reviews, and tolerance stack-ups from prototype to mass production. Guide a team of Mechanical Engineers through sustaining engineering, test equipment development, and supplier quality while partnering with Product, Industrial Design, and Manufacturing to drive new product launches. Surface real constraints from the team and suppliers, maintain issue trackers and schedule scenarios, and verify designs against requirements including VA/VE analysis. Qualify global suppliers, evaluate manufacturing capabilities, and manage the department budget. Distill complex technical realities into clear recommendations for executive leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics/BioMedical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years experience with consumer or industrial product development and electronics iteration
  • 5+ years technical leadership experience
  • A hands-on engineer at heart: still fluent in CAD and able to contribute directly to design work, not only review it
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and interpersonal skills, with a bias toward listening
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to interface with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and customers worldwide, and to distill technical detail for an executive audience
  • Relentlessly organized, comfortable running issue trackers and maintaining multiple schedule versions
  • Experience in electromechanical assemblies (e.g., LCDs, batteries, sensors, flex circuits, PCBs, antennas, buttons)
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing
  • Data-driven and detail focused, comfortable with statistical analysis methods
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to manage multiple projects and priorities within a cross functional team
  • Experience with manufacturing and manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, compression molding, sheet metal, stamping, MIM, soft goods, and CNC machining) and process validation
  • Experience with reliability, cosmetic specs, the QA process, and standard mechanical test methods
  • Experience with product validation (Shock/Drop, Cycle, and Environmental Testing)
  • Experience collaborating with Asian manufacturing facilities in high-volume mass production, including working through DFM challenges with external suppliers
  • Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes and/or automation
  • Ability to travel internationally (approximately 4 to 5 weeks per year)
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems
  • Experience with integration of wireless antenna (Bluetooth, GPS, Wifi) into mechanical enclosures
  • Experience with design of audio subsystems (microphones and speakers)
  • Experience with design of optical and/or camera systems
  • Experience with thermal modeling and analysis
  • The hired candidate will be required to complete a background check

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of HVAC systems
