Director, LTL & Truckload
On-siteSan Francisco, California, United States
Job Summary
Source carriers and onboard FTL and OTR freight, building repeatable lane relationships to reduce spot market reliance. Live on DAT and load boards to source competitive pricing, negotiate daily rates, and cover difficult freight efficiently. Price FTL and LTL opportunities using lane history and market conditions, then turn quotes around for sales. Monitor lanes for margin erosion, flag underperformers, and drive repricing strategies to protect margins on every load. Maintain carrier compliance by verifying insurance, operating authority, and safety ratings while managing onboarding steps. Collaborate with sales, dispatch, and customer service to ensure booking flows smoothly and resolve exceptions before they reach the customer.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years in freight brokerage, carrier sales, or transportation operations, with hands-on carrier sourcing and rate negotiation
- Working command of load boards (DAT, Truckstop, or equivalent) and a TMS
- Comfort pricing FTL and LTL freight: lane analysis, market rates, fuel, and accessorials
- Strong negotiation instincts and the drive to cover hard freight under time pressure
- Familiarity with carrier compliance basics: insurance verification, operating authority, and FMCSA safety ratings
- Solid Excel and data fluency
Desired Qualifications
- Experience across modes (FTL, OTR, local, LTL), and with Power Only, Drop Trailer, or dedicated OTR freight
- Marketplace or dedicated shorthaul brokerage experience
