Job Summary
Director, Engineering at Customer.io to own the billing platform initiative from vision to production. Lead the engineering org responsible for an in-house, usage-based billing system with multi-tier pricing. Set strategy, build the team, mentor engineering managers, and drive execution with executive visibility for a zero-to-one project. Bring an AI-native mindset to software leadership, partner with Product/Finance/Engineering leadership, and navigate build-vs-buy decisions while delivering scalable SaaS infrastructure. Requires 12+ years of software engineering experience and 8+ years leading teams; 4+ years managing engineering managers/directors; strong SaaS/cloud-native understanding; proven ability to deliver complex platform initiatives and translate technical complexity into actionable strategy.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of software engineering experience
- 8+ years leading engineering teams
- 4+ years managing engineering managers and/or directors
- Proven track record taking complex, custom platform initiatives from zero-to-one in SaaS or marketplace companies
- Deep understanding of SaaS software architecture and cloud-native infrastructure
- Experience building systems upon which other business units depend
- Ability to translate technical complexity into clear strategy and communicate with engineers and executives
- Strong track record hiring and developing talent, career-pathing, and guiding team transitions
- Demonstrated AI-native leadership and practice integration
