Job Summary
Director of Emerging Technology at Murphy Oil Corporation located in Houston with a hybrid work arrangement. Lead and scale the innovation program by defining a rolling multi-year roadmap, scanning industry trends, evaluating emerging technologies, and orchestrating cross-functional initiatives to translate new technologies into measurable business value. Responsibilities include leading POCs and pilots, prioritizing opportunities based on ROI and strategic fit, coordinating with IT/OT and business leaders, managing change and adoption programs, building external partnerships with government, universities, and research labs, and driving governance to ensure investments deliver ROI. Reports to the CTO in Houston and may work two days per week remotely. Requires leading technology strategy, governance, and value realization across safety, sustainability, and capital efficiency, with a focus on delivering measurable outcomes and scalable implementations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Geosciences or related technical field (required)
- Advanced degree, preferred (PhD or MBA)
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in Operations, Engineering, Technology or relevant field with responsibilities focused on innovation management, emerging ops tech research, digital transformation, or organization transformation at scale within the oil and gas sector
- Proven track record of successfully evaluating, piloting, and scaling emerging technologies in a diverse enterprise environment
- Experienced business acumen, creative problem-solving, and stakeholder influence
- Background in influencing strategic planning, operational technology, or digital transformation at scale
